The “Old Man and the Sea” is a novella written by the writer Ernest Hemingway in Cayo Blanca (Cuba) in 1951 and published in 1952. This is Hemingway’s last major work of fiction. This is one of Hemingway’s most popular work. It tells the story of an ageing fisherman Santiago and his struggle in catching a giant marlin (fish) found in the Gulf stream of Cuba. Though Santiago considered himself unlucky because of his failure to capture the fish, a chance conversation with his protégé, a little boy helps him regain his spirit and persevere in his fight. This is a story of the perseverance of an old man in his struggle with a fish.
This is a must-read for the youth of this generation who wish to succeed in their life. It has been published with the purpose of rejuvenating the minds of all who read it. This is considered to be Hemingway’s masterpiece and it received the Pulitzer Prize for Fiction in 1953.
